The Vilas açorianas Florianopolis is a old fishing town built on tradition. Settled in the 1800’s, the early founders left a legacy for the leaders to come. However, one cannot discuss the Vilas açorianas, Florianopolis without talking about the great sea captain and dominating oyster fisher Anthony Mendez Bologna the Third. This man, considered to be the father of the small town, was an expert shell fisher with a heart as big as a whale. Every morning at 5:00 AM, Bologna would get into his boat and sail out of harbor and along the coastline, pulling up oysters by the bushel. At about noon or sometimes a bit later, Bologna returned to his shop to sell the fresh oysters he just caught. Anthony was not a selfish man, though. While he may have engaged you in some friendly competition on the water, the man really cared about the town he was raised in. He used much of the fortune gained from his oyster runs to build cottages and villages around Vilas açorianas Florianopolis. These houses can still be seen standing and inhabited today. That isn't all Mr. Bologna did, however. As the story goes, he was the grandfather of the “soup kitchen” concept. Mr. Bologna sold his oysters and various seafood by day, and when the store closed at night, he would give the leftovers for free to various restaurants who would prepare it for the homeless or poor living in the village. When Anthony Mendez Bologna the Third passed away of a heart attack at the age of 76, a large statue was erected of him by the harbor he would leave from every morning. Much to the town’s disappointment, it was washed away one night in a large sea storm.

It is not surprising to find that the oyster dishes in Vilas açorianas, Florianopolis are phenomenally fresh and probably of the best quality anywhere in the world.

If you plan on visiting the area of Florianopolis, it might be worth stopping by the small town of Vilas açorianas and getting a taste of some world-class seafood. The town also serves a beautiful looking glass to the past. Most of the village is kept in the same way it has stood for decades.
