Praia do Santinho is a beach in north Florianopolis located about 40 kilometres from the centre of the city. Praia do Santinho was earlier known as Praia das Aranhas and is still called by that name by many local people and visitors. Only after 1970 people have started using the name Santinho and maps were updated with this name. Toponimo Aranhas and Advem das Ilhas that are to the south of Praia do Santinho and opposite to the tip of the land were used to be called as Ponta das Ilhas das Aranhas and now simplified to be known as Ponta das Aranhas. The meaning of Aranhas is spider and the reason why it was named after spider earlier was that the beach was full of spiders coming from Islands of Aranhas. The beach is approximately 2.2 kilometres long and varies from 10 to 120 metres in width. It is right next to Praia dos Ingles.

Praia dos Santinho is looked upon as a wonderful beach by tourists who are nature lovers and those who like tranquillity. The beach is decorated by fine dunes. The beach has a characteristic of open sea with strong waves making it an ideal beach for surfers. But waves are strong to the extent of being dangerous and should be watched out for. Many tourists call Praia do Santinho the best beach of the north and heavenly beauty due to its clear waters, fine sands and strong waves. Praia da Santinho is a surfer’s paradise thanks to its quality of waves which is consistent throughout the year. The waves come from both right and left direction. The normal length of the waves is 50 metres to 150 metres and same holds true for good days also. The waves swell up to 6 feet also on a good day. The wind direction is west and northwest. But the waves are of oceanic characteristic and adequate care should be taken while surfing. The beach has also been used for nautical sports for over two decades. Other attraction of the beach includes pre-historic inscriptions made by made by the hunting, fishing people and collections of the Island which are more than five thousand years old. The inscriptions were made on approximately 3 square meters of a thick wall of black diabasio next to the beach that meet covered recorded signals in the rock deeply.

Praid do Santinho is crowded on weekdays and over-crowded on weekends. The beach can be reached by car or by bus provided by Canasvieiras Company. There are good quality pousadas or inns in the vicinity of Praia do Santinho namely Atoba, Amar, Lumi, Paulikota and Lazer. One should keep in mind to behave warmly with the locals and do not drop in to their waves while surfing otherwise there are chances of being taken out of the beach.
