Campeche Beach – For top class surfing experience
Campeche beach is located in the south of City of Florianopolis. Campeche beach is located 23 kilometres from downtown Florianopolis and 11 kilometres from the airport. The beach is nearly 3 kilometres long offering enjoyment at its full. The beach got is name in 1860. It is next to Joaquina beach, Morro das Pedras beach and Armaco beach. With world-class wave quality and consistent too it is one of the best beaches for surfing in Florianopolis. The waves are hollow, powerful and fast in nature. The normal length of the waves varies from 50 metres to 150 metres and goes up to 500 metres on a good day. The swell starts at 3 feet and goes as high as 8 feet also. The swell direction is south and direction of wind is west, northwest, south and southwest. Only experienced surfers should venture out during high waves as they can be dangerous at times. The bottom of the beach is sand. Campeche beach’s sea water is cold and crystal clear.
There is an airplane runway situated near Campeche and the impressive thing about this runway is that, from 1926 to 1939, the aviator Saint-Exupery and the French writer used this runway and this is the same location where the southern mail service has been operating since many years. Saint-Exupery is also the writer of the book The Small Prince and he also contributed to the construction of the airplane runway, which was the only landing region at that time. The airplane runway was initially made out of wood, but with progress in time, technology has evolved at this runway.
Restaurants and bars are also present next to the beach. The ecological reserve at Campeche is one thing that is a must visit place. There are two small lagoons in this area named Lagoinha Pequena and Lagoinha da Chica. They are part of the ecological reserve and the stable dunes which are located to the east of the ecological reserve are covered with green vegetation which enhances the scenic beauty of the Campeche beach even further. Strange inscriptions can also be witnessed which can be dated back to two thousand years.
The beach is moderately crowded on weekdays and crowded on weekends. To reach Campeche beach by car follow south once in the island and look for Campeche beach signs. Also there are lots of good restaurants and bars along the beach to chill out. Finding a good accommodation is also not a problem. Still thinking?
