Acores beach – Have fun in the blue waters here
Acores is located thirty one kilometers from the center of Florianopolis and twenty four kilometers from the airport. The Acores beach has a medium band of sand and sea which has fresh and clear water. From the beach the islands of Três Irmãs and Moleques are within viewing range.
The specialty of the blue waves of the sea is that they are of medium size, which reduces the risk for surfers who are at beginner’s level. The Acores beach is complemented by the surrounding Pantano do Sul beach, the Trombudo and Praia dos Naufragados beach. The pavements in this area are made out of stone and the access is made by tarred material. This enables the parking of cars, few meters away from the beach. This also means that Acores beach can be reached via vehicle, unlike other beaches which need to be reached on foot. This part of the island has good facilities such as electricity, telephone, tap water and proper sewer system. Supermarkets are also present here, alongside pharmacies and internet cafes. The pharmacies also provide tele-service here.
Other facilities such as schools, hospitals, police station and community centers are also present for the advantage of the local inhabitants. Along with housing and strong infrastructure for the locals, Acores beach also serves as a fun site for the tourist.
Situated between the Solidao beach and Pantano do Sul beach, the Acores beach functions more like a health resort, among the rest of the beaches located towards the south of the Island of Santa Catarina. The health resort plan was designed by the Municipal City Hall.
The beach is immensely popular with surfers. It offers good quality waves and surfers with all levels of experience can go out in the waters for surfing. The waves are also consistent. The waves come from both right and left which are fast, powerful and fun to surf in. The bottom of the waters is sandy and is thus safe as opposed to rocks. The normal length of the waves is 50 meters which goes up to 150 meters on a good surfing day. The direction of swell is southeast. The swell starts at 3 feet and works its way to more than 8 feet also.
Praia dos Acores is in the extreme south of Florianopolis and can be reached via car. The beach moderately crowded on weekdays and extremely crowded on weekends. As with other beaches of Florianopolis also, care must be taken to protect your belongings and to behave cordially with the locals.
